Remembering our beloved departed - and a tour of Historic Oakwood Cemetery

images.jpg

As the weather grows cooler the leaves change colors and begin to fall. It is only natural that, at this time of year, our thoughts turn to those whom we have loved who are no longer with us. How appropriate it is, then, that the church offers us the special focus of All Saints Day and All Souls Day in November - the Month of the Holy Souls in Purgatory.

With our beloved dead in mind, the Band of Sisters will gather on Monday, 28 October to pray for our departed. In addition, we will take a guided tour of this historic cemetery - which will have a special focus on the history of the women buried there.

For 150 years, Historic Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh has told the stories of generations: families who formed our city, soldiers who honored our country, and people of today who chose to rest among the historic oaks.

You are invited to join us. Please register so we can let our guide know who to expect. Suggested donation is $10.

Simply click the button below and follow the prompts.

Advent Prayer in the spirit of Taizé

article_73.png

The season of Advent embraces us with the mystery that “the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth.”  John 1:14.

The Incarnation reminds us that God chooses to meet us where we are and invites us into a deeper relationship.

Advent gives us the opportunity to prepare our hearts to receive the incredible gift of Christmas.

This Advent season, come join the Band of Sisters in collaboration with the Contemplative Prayer Group of the parish as we pray together in the spirit of Taizé on Tuesday, December 10 at 7pm in Sacred Heart Church (the old cathedral) 100 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh, NC.

This Advent Taize Prayer will be a time to rest in God as the words of the spoken reflections and sung refrains penetrate our souls. The elegantly simple service made up of short chants, often in Latin, repeated over and over in the candle-lit space, coupled with brief readings and periods of silence, can serve as a quiet, still point in an otherwise busy season.

Happy 5th Birthday - to all of us!

Come celebrate the magic!

Plan to join the band on Wednesday, June 19 from 1:00 - 3:00p at the home of one of our Raleigh Band members. There will be lemonade and tea and cake - and even some magic!

If you are able to celebrate with us, simply fill out the information below and click SUBMIT. That’s all there is to it! The address of the party will come to you once you RSVP.

Knowing who to expect for the celebration is very helpful as we make the preparations - especially for the magic lessons! So fill out the form below if you are planning to join in the fun as we celebrate five years of being together as the Band of Sisters.

Your presence is your gift to the Band - but if you wish to make a donation to further the mission, click here to be taken to the DONATE page and follow those prompts.

Come walk the labyrinth

img_2980-1.jpg
The labyrinth is a sacred pattern that leads you on a path to its center and back out again. It’s a way of praying with the body that invites God into an active conversation with the heart and soul.

Come walk the labyrinth with us during the Easter Season.

Ann O'Hara will start off our time together with a brief presentation on the labyrinth, some guidelines on walking it, and how the labyrinth might be used as a prayer practice.  Following the presentation, we will be invited to walk the labyrinth or spend time in contemplation on the benches that are available. After the walk, we will have an opportunity to share our experience as we enjoy our BYO picnic lunches together. So - pack your lunch, grab your camp chair, and head over to Millbrook Baptist for this special time together with the Band.

You can register by clicking on the LABYRINTH button found below and following the prompts. While there is no fee for the labyrinth walk, the suggested donation is $10.00.

The cost of presenting the various prayer opportunities throughout the year exceeds the resources of the Band of Sisters core team. We rely on the generosity of of our Sisters to help make these gatherings a continuing part of the spiritual enrichment of all who wish to participate. Our goal is two-fold: to make our programs self-sustaining, and to celebrate and recognize the sisters whose love for spiritual growth and faith sharing makes it possible. When you register for one of our gatherings, it reserves your space and allows us to expand our future offerings. We always recommend a registration amount that is in line with the program we are offering - and we encourage and appreciate your generosity.
